Understanding Red Masks and Performance Verification on Operabase
Red and grey masks explained
A red mask on a performance means it has been verified: the credit has been confirmed against the producing organisation's own information. Red-mask performances appear in the Casting Tool and in searches. A grey mask means the credit has not yet been verified; it still shows on your own profile. Performances entered or confirmed by the producing organisation are verified at source and need nothing further from you.
Requesting a red mask
- Log in and go to your profile's Edit page, under Performance Verification (Red Mask).
- Select the production you want verified.
- Click Request red mask.
- Upload documentation to support your request: a link to the official production page, a programme, a review, or a signed contract.
The verification process may take some time as we review the information you've uploaded.
What evidence is accepted?
For approval, the evidence should show the producer's official branding, the full cast and crew list, and the venue, dates and times. Accepted forms include a direct link to the official production page, an official programme, or supporting documents such as a contract (supplementary only).

Why did I get an email about masks on my performances?
You may receive an email letting you know some performances aren't showing in the Casting Tool because they carry a grey mask. This is purely informational: nothing is being removed, and your profile isn't at risk. If you've already sent evidence and the mask hasn't changed, if the email reached the wrong person, or a listed performance didn't take place, reply to the email or contact contact@operabase.com and we'll correct the record.
