Where our records come from and how they are checked

Records in Operabase are built from several sources, each checked before it becomes part of the record. This article sets out where the material comes from and how it is verified.

Organisations

Most records originate with the organisations themselves: from published season announcements, programmes and casting information. This material is added either by the organisation directly or by Operabase's editorial team.

Artists, agents and management

Artists, agents and management add and correct their own credits.

Researchers, institutions and the public

Researchers, institutions and members of the public can submit material, including historical material, through a feature called Add/Edit, available on any record's page. 

Checking submissions

All submissions are checked by Operabase's team before they become part of the record.

Verifying a credit

Artists can also have individual performances verified through a feature called Red Mask, which confirms a credit against the producing organisation's own information.

Errors are corrected on request. Use Add/Edit on the page in question, or write to contact@operabase.com.
